Chemistry in Year 3 is heavy on physical chemistry before moving into organic topics closer to WASSCE. This planner follows that order week by week.
First Semester (Weeks 1-12)
- Acid-base equilibria: pH, pOH, pKa/pKb and buffer solutions.
- Salts and indicators: hydrolysis of salts and acid-base indicators.
- Redox chemistry: oxidation and reduction reactions and titrations.
- Titration technique: balancing redox reactions and identifying oxidising/reducing agents.
Second Semester (Weeks 13-24)
- Electrochemistry: electrochemical cells, electrode potentials and electrolysis.
- Corrosion: how metals corrode and how to prevent it.
- Transition elements: their properties and complexes, compared with main group elements.
- Organic chemistry: esters, fats and oils, and natural and synthetic polymers.
